creative flat water bottle

Designing everyday convenience with intuitive form

The wavy water bottle was designed to solve a simple, everyday problem: carrying a water bottle in bags that weren’t designed for bottles. Traditional round bottles often create bulk, roll, or awkwardly fit in slim compartments. This project explores how form can follow function while still feeling elegant, tactile, and intentional.

the problem

In daily urban life - whether commuting, walking, or attending college - people often carry tote bags, clutches, slim backpacks, or laptop sleeves. Standard cylindrical bottles either don’t fit or disrupt the bag’s balance. The challenge was clear:

How can we reimagine the water bottle as something that adapts to lifestyle — not the other way around?

The design takes on a flat, elongated shape with a subtle wavy form — mimicking the natural way fingers grip an object. The wave isn’t aesthetic alone; it’s functional for grip and creates internal structure that helps reduce sloshing when in motion.

Sketches, digital mockups, and 3D explorations were used to test ergonomics and volume retention. The final form balanced carrying ease with adequate capacity, targeting a 500-750 ml range — enough for short commutes or gym sessions.

This project challenged the idea that product design is just styling. It became an exercise in observation and empathy - understanding how people move, carry, and live. The result is a bottle that doesn’t try to stand out on a shelf - it tries to fit in seamlessly into your everyday life.
